Thursday, June 23, 2022, was award day at St. Edmund’s School in Edmonton, which was founded by the Ursulines of Jesus in 1911 and recognized by the Alberta government in 1913.

The Ursulines of Jesus offer a $500 prize and a letter of encouragement to the student who is recognized for his or her social skills in the school and society. The principal, Mr. Fernando Ranco, invited the sisters to this event. Sister Mary Clare was at the General Chapter and Sisters Hazel and Pilar could not attend, so Sister Mariangel and Sister Catherine represented the congregation.

Due to the pandemic, there had not been such a ceremony for two years and the students and parents present were joyful and excited about the event.

Mariangel, Kaline, Catherine

The Ursuline prize was awarded to Kaline Dallal. She is a refugee from Lebanon who, besides doing exceedingly well academically, supports students who are struggling at school, visits seniors in a nearby centre, goes grocery shopping for those who cannot speak English, does the banking for seniors who only speak Arabic, etc. She plans to be an engineer and has been accepted as a student at ‘Archbishop MacDonald’ High school. Congratulations to Kaline
